Rain sensing headlights. I accept most people have the mental capacity to turn on their windshield wipers when raindrops begin to hit the windshield. Sure. What I don't trust is that most people have the mental wherewithal to turn on their damn headlights at the same time. Look, you troglodytes (not you, just everyone else), when it's raining and cars are moving about, as they do, it's really hard to see your un-lighted ass coming up from behind right as I exit the freeway. Or enter the freeway. Or otherwise need to merge.

God. Why does no one know this is the law? And why is it never enforced?

By the way, raining heavily in Central Texas for the first time in two years. While it's time for celebration, I have NEVER witnessed so many easily avoidable crashes, heard so many sirens, or seen so many wiped out barrier as I have these past two days.

This is an idiot-driver behavior that I really wish got better stomped on in drivers' ed. Of course, almost as bad are hi-beams-and-tailgating-in-fog asshats. Don't run into those as often, but when I do, it leaves an impression.

Not all states have wiper/headlights laws, but come on common sense.

Heck, mandatory automatic headlights would be nice as well. I see way too many cars driving around after dusk with their lights off. Camrys have apparently had this feature for years.

Wow, really?I'd always assumed it was a 50-state kind of law. It should be. And yes. Common sense. Cause here's the thing. When your checking rain spattered mirrors through side windows that are streaming with water, it's almost impossible to see a car that doesn't have its headlights on. And in Texas, I'm almost positive that if an accident occurs, the driver who did not have his headlights on, in this case legally mandated safety equipment, would be declared at fault. But I don't WANT to have at accident at 55-65 MPH in the rain, so just turn 'em on, you dorks.

My brother's truck's backrack has rear facing lights mounted on it. (mine will too when i get around to it). As they are meant to serve as worklights, they are bright as fuck. not perhaps the smartest response, but i fire back sometimes. sweet vengeance :)

My wife's '02 Camry doesn't have auto headlights, but if you leave them on all the time, it'll automatically turn them off a minute or so after the car is shut off. But yes, especially in places with adequate street lighting, as long as people can see they won't think, "Hey, it's night, maybe I should turn on the equipment that would allow other drivers to see and avoid colliding with me."

My state, NM, does not require it. I will never forget an accident I saw happen on a highway coming from the 4 Corners. It was raining hard hard (we call it monsoon) Car up ahead of me with no lights on and car turning left in front of said car with no lights on, also with no lights on, collided at a speed of least 55-65 mph. I believe 3 people dead. Why? And then there are the idiots with blacked out taillights.
